How does Ananzi work?

Ananzi's structure:

Ananzi consists of two sections: the SA Directory and the Search Engine (SA Web). In order however to get your site into the Ananzi search engine, you first have to submit it to the SA Directory - from where it would be spidered (indexed) should it fit our acceptance criteria. This process is detailed below:

Steps involved in listing your site on Ananzi
  1. First you have to submit your site to Ananzi via our submissions page, making sure you have read and understood the "Terms and conditions" of adding your site to Ananzi. If your site does not comply with these conditions, please do not submit.

  2. Read the "Guidelines on making your site searchable" and complete the submissions form with your- and your site's details.

  3. Once we've received your submission, we will manually review your site against our criteria. This normally happens within 2-3 working days of submission.

  4. If it meets our criteria, it will be accepted. If it does not meet the criteria, your site will be rejected. In both of the above instances you will be notified of our decision via e-mail.

  5. Once your site is accepted, it will be visible and searchable in Ananzi's SA Directory.

  6. During the next step, your site will be spidered / crawled / indexed by our spider - which on average takes another 1-3 weeks after acceptance of your site.

  7. During the spidering process, your meta tags will be checked and used to determine the ranking of your site. For this reason it is very important that you have the correct meta tags on your site.

  8. Your site will now become searchable in the Ananzi search engine - especially through words and phrases you have used in your meta tags. Once in the search engine, your site will also be re-visited every 10-16 days to ensure we have the most up-to-date information from your site.

How your site will be displayed in the SA Directory

The details you fill in on the submissions form will be used to display your site in the SA Directory - under the category you have specified (note: in certain cases the category might be changed by the Ananzi Search Administrator if there is a more appropriate category than the one selected).

The following details on the submissions form:

Webmaster name:
Webmaster email:
URL:
Web site title:
Description:
Keywords:
will result in the following listing in the SA Site Directory:

  • Ananzi South Africa's no.1 search engine!
If you want to make any changes to the way your site displays on the SA Directory, please complete the "Make changes to your listing" form.

How your site will be displayed on the Ananzi search engine
